Cicakman could be a hit?

ALOR STAR: Malaysia’s very first funny superhero – The Cicak Man – is set to make an impact with movie goers.

Lead actor Saiful Apek said the movie, which would be released during Hari Raya, had the potential to penetrate the Western market.

“This movie is so full of high-quality special effects that even Putrajaya, where the film was shot, looks different on screen,” he said.

“In the movie, Putrajaya is called Metrofulus (fulus means money in Arabic). Those who watch the movie will not even recognise the location. With special effects, maple trees are added to the landscape and big ships can be seen plying the river. There are also winter scenes.

“Technology in film-making has made it possible to create out-of-this-world scenes,” he said after making an appearance at Alor Star Mall, where Digi’s Pesta GeGeRiuh 2006 is held.

The event was part of a roadshow to showcase Anugerah ERA artistes including Apek, Yassin, Shanna and Pushpa, who are actors in the Ejen 016 television series. Other Era artistes who made appearances are Farahwahida, Samir, Junio Hustle, and Pretty Ugly.

Digi is the main sponsor of Anugerah Era, which will be held in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.

Saiful said Cicak Man proves that Malaysia had creative talents to take the filming industry far.

Cicak Man is one of my greatest achievements in my 12-year acting career. It is high time we catch up with Hollywood, Bollywood and Hong Kong,” he said, adding that he had acted in 38 films.

On the Ejen 016 series screened over TV3 on Wednesdays at 9.30pm, Saiful, who also stars in it, said the show was also full of special effects.
